F-1 Visa New Students Information (USA)

There are Three types of orientations for Undergraduate transfer students that have completed their studies at an U.S. college or university:

1. New Student Orientation for Spring 2018 Admits

The Winter Orientation for Spring 2018 Admits will be held in December and January on campus.  These early orientations are designed for domestic U.S. resident students and NOT REQUIRED for international students.  HOWEVER, for F-1 undergraduate students that are transferring from California community college or university and currently living in the United States, it is an OPTION for you to attend. You may register for classes during these early advising sessions. To register, log-in to your online Student Center and click "Orientation Registration" link in the "New Undergraduates" box.

2. Mandatory International Student Orientation

The second type of orientation is the Mandatory International Student Orientation that begins on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 for upper-division transfer students from a U.S. college or university.

Please bring your passport, I-94 (Print your I-94 here), SF State I-20, and SF State student ID (if you already have one) and check in at SF State Student Life Event Center (Annex I) on January 16, 2018 at 9:00AM.

If you DID NOT attend the Winter Orientation given by SF State in December or January:

You must attend the International Academic Advising Session on January 18, 2018 to register for classes.  Click to download the F-1 International Student Undergraduate Academic Advising Session handout (PDF, 139KB).  Information for the International Academic Advising Session will be available when you attend the first day of the Mandatory International Student Orientation.

If you have ATTENDED the Summer Orientation and registered for classes:

You do not need to attend the International Academic Advising Session on January 18, 2018.  However, you must attend the Mandatory International Student Orientation and complete the Online International Student Orientation sessions.

3. Mandatory F-1 International Student Online Orientation

The third type of orientation is the Online International Student Orientation that you MUST complete prior to arrival.  The online orientation sessions can be completed at your leisure and should only take a few hours.  You will receive log-in instructions and reminders in December 2017.
